Remember Project Ara? We are finally getting another update on the project. Meanwhile, Motorola is taking the stage with Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo rumors.
Project Ara almost ready for launch
We haven’t heard much about Project Ara lately, which makes it exciting to see the team finally has an update on the development of the unique modular device. The first fully-functional Project Ara device is to be shown off at the second Ara developer conference, come December.
The modular device is to launch in early 2015, making this announcement testament that everything seems to be running smoothly. The Project Ara team goes on to tell us the device will run a modified Android L software, which is made in collaboration with Linaro.
This modified version of Android will make it possible to hot swap your modules (except for the processor and display). This means you will be able to switch modules without turning off the device. More news will be sure to come soon, so stay tuned!
Opinion: I feel like many of us just put Project Ara in the back of our minds for a while, there. Suddenly I am super excited for the modular device again! Let’s hope for more details to come soon. This will mean true customizability for mobile geeks (no pun intended).
2nd Nexus 6 image render shows up
The tech blogging community is all over the upcoming Motorola Nexus 6 (or whatever it may be named). Previous rumors were the origin of a rendered image that depicted what the device would look like, and today we have a second image to show.
This one comes from the guys at Android Police, who have received information that corroborates past rumors and adds new details. As you can see int eh image below, the upcoming Nexus does look much like an over-sized Moto X.
The main physical difference is that the front-facing speakers will be black, but Android Police also got some details on the software differences. Multiple icons have been modified, including the dialer, Play Store, Gmail and other Google apps.
Opinion: Sadly for those who do not like small devices, this rumor also states the device will have a gigantic 5.9-inch QHD display. It will also have a 3200 mAh battery, though, which may be more than enough reason to make it a winner.
New benchmark shows Motorola Droid Turbo specs
The Motorola Droid Turbo has been the protagonists at previous leaked benchmarks, and the rumored device is here to show its stuff once again. This time the benchmark comes from GFXBench and it does show a very powerful device.
Specs include Android 4.4.4, a 5.2-inch QHD (2560x1440p) display, a 2.6 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 19MP/2MP cameras and more.
Opinion: This will be one hell of a device! Verizon users should be excited for this one, as we haven’t seen a good DROID come in a while.
