Note-syncing app Evernote now has more than 30 million users in Asia, reveals the US startup’s CEO, Phil Libin.
Talking to the Wall Street Journal, Libin says the service now has 100 million registered users in total, of whom over 30 percent are in Asia.
Emphasizing the importance of embracing new markets, only 25 percent of Evernote’s user-base is in the US and Canada. That’s why Libin says Evernote will add more staff in Asia. It already has offices in Beijing, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, and Tokyo.
He adds that the firm is considering an office in India, and plans to enter the Australian market soon.

However, Libin didn’t elaborate on how much revenue Evernote makes from Asia, or how many of its premium users are in the region. Historically, the makers of web services, apps, and games have found it hard to monetize from paid users in Asia, with the usual exception of Japan.
At the most recent count late last year, Evernote has eight million registered users in China, though it lags behind a homegrown service run by Chinese web portal Netease, which has more than 15 million onboard. Tech in Asia recently requested country-specific numbers for Evernote, but a representative declined.
