New 'Transformational' Feature Coming To Android 12

Google is only a few days away from its Google For Game Developers Summit which will be starting Monday, July 12th. Ahead of the event, Google let slip an interesting bit of news about Android 12. It says that it will introduce a new transformational feature coming to Android 12. This was spotted by XDA Developers.

The new transformational feature may have something to do with game downloads

The keynote that will advertise the new transformational feature is waiting to premier on YouTube. In the description, Google explains some of what the keynote is about. It starts off by saying “Users want to start playing right away, but as game quality keeps improving, their size increases, leading to long, dull downloads.”

There’s not much that software can do to impact the download speed of devices. It all depends on the speed of the internet and the size of the actual download. It will be interesting to see what Google is planning on doing about download speeds.

This may possibly have something to do with the switch to Android App Bundle (AAB) format for the Play Store. The company recently stated that it will be moving away from the APK format for its apps starting in August. One of the perks of the AAB format is smaller size downloads. This might tie into this new feature.

Whatever feature that the company will unveil is probably written somewhere in the code in the existing Android 12 beta. If not the beta, then it’s probably being developed now and will be launched with the official Android 12 build.

Google will also announce new game mode APIs

Along with this new transformational feature, Google will announce another addition to the software. The other keynote in the summit has something to do with new APIs that Google will be unveiling.

In the description, it reads that gamers want to customize their games to get the highest frame rates and best battery savings. Google didn’t really go into any detail as to what it has up its sleeves. It invited game developer to integrate their games and test them out for upcoming devices.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Android 12 beta has been out for a while. It brings some welcome changes to the platform. It brings completely revamped visuals and some fun new features.
