ZUK is a relatively new Chinese smartphone OEM backed by Lenovo. This company has already released their first handset, the ZUK Z1. This smartphone offers more than a decent spec sheet, and is quite affordable. The phone was launched in two variants actually, the Chinese variant sports ZUK’s ZUI user interface on top of Android, while the international variant of the phone comes with Cyanogen OS 12.1 installed on top of Google’s OS. That being said, we’ve participated the announcement event, and you can check out our hands-on coverage of the phone here, and the review will arrive soon.
Anyhow, it was just a matter of time before someone tears this phone apart, and IT168 did just that. The first ZUK Z1 teardown took place in China, and we’re here to take an even closer look at the device. There are a number of images in the gallery down below, which you can check out if you’d like to see how ZUK put this thing together. The phone is well-built, and everything is in place as far as internals go, every spec is present and accounted for. Speaking of specs, the ZUK Z1 features a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, 3GB of RAM and 64GB of in-built storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core SoC powers this handset, and a 4,100mAh battery is also included in the package. The 13-megapixel OIS camera is located on the back of this phone, and an 8-megapixel snapper can be found up front. Type-C USB 3.0 port is located on the bottom of the device, and ZUK Z1 sports a metallic trim around the device. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop comes pre-installed here, and depending on where you purchase it, you’ll get either ZUI or Cyanogen OS pre-installed (the latter one is still not available).
As far as general design goes, the ZUK Z1 isn’t anything ground-breaking, but it’s alright looking, it all depends on what you like. The physical home button you can see below the display actually doubles as a fingerprint scanner, and the device measures 155.7 x 77.3 x 8.9mm, while it weighs 175 grams. ZUK Z1 is priced at $285 in China, and it will cost around $300 in Europe when it becomes available next month.
