Hugo Barra Disassembles The Xiaomi Mi 4i And Answers Questions About The Device

Xiaomi Mi 4i official hands-on_18

Xiaomi has announced the rumored Mi 4i mid-ranger in India a couple of days ago and has once again managed to pack a lot of power into a rather affordable device. The company has already released a number of promo videos in regard to this device, including the durability test and the manufacturing process. Well, today we have something a bit different to share with you, Hugo Barra himself disassembles the Mi 4i in video and answers some questions regarding the device itself.

The company’s previous videos and first reports proved that this device is well-built, but Xiaomi’s Head of International, Hugo Barra, wanted to show us what hides inside of it. Xiaomi truly managed to pack a lot into this handset, in case you’re interested in checking out the full teardown process, take a look at the embedded YouTube video down below. That being said, Hugo Barra did answer some questions about the device itself, courtesy of PhoneRadar. Let’s see what he had to say, shall we.

Mr. Barra has said that only the White model of the device will be sold for the first couple of weeks in which the company will hold two flash sales. He also mentioned that only the White and Black variants of the device will have a smooth matte finish, while the other color options (Sky Blue, Pink and Orange) will actually have glossy plastic on the back which will attract fingerprints. As you might know, the Xiaomi Mi 4i doesn’t offer a microSD slot on the inside, and Mr. Barra said that they simply couldn’t fit it in. He says that the SIM card slots already took a lot of space and that the microSD slot simply wasn’t an option.

Xiaomi’s Head of International also confirmed that the MIUI software which ships with Mi 4i is the final look of Lollipop for Xiaomi devices, as you might know, this skin is based on Android 5.0.2. He also defended the ‘flagship’ naming for this device by stating the following: “Understandable that Xiaomi shouldn’t have called this a flagship, but they have several meanings for the same. They say, this is a flagship “first” for India, and nothing wrong in doing that. First to have the latest OS version, better battery backup, a 64-bit octa-core processor can make it look like a better one, though there are some compromises are also seen. Nevertheless, given the price, not many might like to call it a flagship. But, do we care about what company wants to call it?”

If you’d like to check out all of the answered questions, follow the source link down below, we’ve covered the major ones in the article though. The Xiaomi Mi 4i costs around $200 in India, and the phone will launch in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia in May.
