Meizu is one of those Chinese OEMs which are on the rise. The company did a great job last year, and has sold a lot of handsets. This Chinese smartphone manufacturer still can’t compete head-to-head with China’s biggest companies in terms of smartphone sales, but they’re getting there. They’re trying to compete with Xiaomi every step of the way, and thus far they’ve been doing a great job releasing really capable handsets at really affordable prices, just like Xiaomi. That being said, both of these companies have two handsets in the mid-range category which are incredibly affordable and yet really capable at the same time.

Xiaomi has unveiled the Redmi 2 handset on January 4, and Meizu has showcased its competitor, the Meizu M1, on January 28. First side-by-side comparison popped up in China, and we’re here to report on it. If you take a at the gallery below this article, you’ll find a bunch of images comparing these two devices side-by-side, in case you’re trying to decide which one to get, this will surely help, at least to some extent. Meizu M1 sports a bigger 5-inch display, compared to Xiaomi Redmi 2’s 4.7-inch display, and is thus somewhat bigger in size, but not by much. These two handsets are significantly different in design and software, but specs as well, at least to some extent.

Both of these handsets are made out of plastic, the Redmi 2 sports 3 capacitive buttons below the display, while the Meizu M1 has only 1 capacitive button, or should I say dot, below the display. The Redmi 2 features a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 IPS display along with 1 (8GB storage) or 2GB (16GB storage) of RAM, depending on the version you get. Meizu M1, on the other hand, sports a 5-inch 1280 x 768 display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Both of these devices offer microSD support, Xiaomi up to 32GB, Meizu up to 128GB expansion. The Xiaomi handset is powered by the Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core SoC by Qualcomm, and the Meizu device comes sporting MediaTek’s MT6732 64-bit quad-core SoC. Both of these handsets support 4G LTE connectivity and in case you’d like to find out more about each one of them, visit our announcement articles which are linked at the beginning of this paragraph.

Both the Meizu M1 and the 1GB version of the Xiaomi Redmi 2 cost 699 Yuan in China, which is approximately $112. It’s up to you to decide which one to get, and make sure to let us know if you purchase either one of these handsets.
