The Double Exposure event in India saw the launch of the Desire Eye in the country back in October. Back then, the Desire Eye was pegged for a release (and availability) the following month, i.e., November. However, at least online stores yet have no sign of listing the device, but there’s some good news. Mahesh Telecom, a popular offline retailer based in the financial capital of India, aka Mumbai, suggests the device will be available offline in the country starting today.
It isn’t very common for an offline store to be the source of any smartphone related news, but Mahesh Telecom has a surprisingly good track record with breaking news. Which is why, we took this one up as well. According to the claim, the phone will be available for 35,990 INR, which roughly translates to US$566. To put that into perspective, let me also tell you that the phone was originally launched for 38,990 INR (US$613), so offline buyers should be happy with the expected price of 35,990 INR. On the other hand, the HTC M8 Eye is already available in India for 35,000 INR, US$16 cheaper than the expected price of the Desire Eye.
To remind you of the specifications, the device has a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080p full HD display, and a 2.3GHz variant of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. This is paired up with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage, which can fortunately be expanded up to 128GB via means of microSD. All said and done, the USP of the Desire Eye remains to be the ‘eye’, i.e., camera section of the phone: it has dual 13 megapixel cameras, both with an aperture of f/2.0. A rather low-capacity sounding 2400mAh battery powers the aforementioned internals on the HTC Desire Eye.
With 4G LTE networks gradually making their way into more and more Indian cities and towns, the HTC Desire Eye is expected to be a device which will get its due share of attention thanks to the on-board support for the networks. Also, the device has dual-band Wi-Fi, which can help if you live in a concrete jungle like me, with Wi-Fi networks overlapping all the time.
