How To Install Android 5.0 Lollipop On Your Nexus Player

Nexus-Player-Review-AH-4

Google’s Nexus Player is a great device. It is in reality the first device to bring the long awaited Android TV to the market. For those that do not know, this is Google’s second attempt at bringing their operating system to your living room after the failure of Google TV. That said, it does look like they might have learned from their mistakes this time round and as such Android TV is becoming a very interesting proposition.

For those that already have a Nexus Player then you will know that Android TV is based on Google’s flagship operating system, Android 5.0 (Lollipop). That said, it is not anywhere near as useful or functional as Lollipop. Android TV is far more limited and basic when compared. That said, this is Android and one of the great features of Android is the ability to change what is running. Just like you would flash a ROM on your phone, you now can also change Android TV on your Nexus Player. Change it to what I hear you ask. Well, how about Android 5.0 Lollipop!

Yep, if you want the real deal installed on your Nexus Player then thanks to the developer of DroidMote you now can. What’s more, the new ‘Lollirock’ (as it is called) is rather easy to install and here is how you do it.

First of all you will need to download the firmware which will be the basis of the installation. You can download the firmware by clicking here. Once you have downloaded the image you then need to put your Nexus Player into bootloader mode. Once in bootloader mode you will need to enter the following command fastboot flash boot boot.img. After this, you will also need to enter the following command fastboot flash system system.img. Lastly, you need to run the final command prompt fastboot -w.

If you are interesting in rooting then you can also do this by downing the root file by Chainfire and then entering the fastboot command fastboot boot root.img. On a final note, if you need to get back to the original Nexus Player firmware then you can obtain this by heading over to the source link below which again repeats these instructions, plus the download files and the original Nexus firmware image. If you just want to check out what Android Lollipop looks like on the Next Player then check out the video below.
