Crowdfunding failure to success in 9 hours: how Ambi Climate put a successful hardware Kickstarter together (Singapore Meetup)

How my first crowdfunding failed, and how I beat my second in 9 hours (Singapore Meetup)

Kickstarter is often a hit-and-miss, and most projects tend to end up in the dumpster. According to Kickspy.com, there have been 86,301 Kickstarter projects that have failed to reach their goals so far. Oh, the humanity!

Then there are those projects that completely overwhelm their initial funding goals, and put the rest to shame. These make up a mere handful, and Ambi Climate is one of them, but there’s an interesting twist to their fundraising story – they had actually failed to hit their goal the first time round, but somehow managed to beat their Kickstarter goal in nine hours, and doubled it in 24.

The question is, how did they pull that off? On October 14, 6:30 pm, they will be sharing their story during our Singapore Meetup session at The Hub Singapore. Julian Lee, CEO of Ambi Labs, will tell us why on earth they decided to go for a second round, and how they changed things up to achieve success far beyond their expectations. Joining him on stage will be Casey Lau, community development APAC at SoftLayer, who acted as Lee’s advisor throughout the process.

Julian has been in strategy development and consultancy for over a decade and is passionate about changing the paradigm of how consumers interact with common household appliances for better usability. His focus is on developing the long-term vision for Ambi Labs and its products, as well as to ensure the team is well supported to achieve their goals day-to-day. Prior to founding Ambi Labs, he assisted and invested in companies ranging from start-ups to listed multinationals across a broad spectrum of industries including telecommunications, natural resources, electronics, biotech, healthcare and agriculture. Julian holds a Masters in Mechanical Engineering (Meng) from Imperial College London.

After the failure of AppstoreVn, he participated in a training course at Founder Insitute. He then went to Singapore to present his ideas in front of many international investors and received his first funding for Appota. In 2012, the startup was crowned the Most Disruptive out of over 500 teams at the Founder Institute, and also won the Best in Asia Award in 2013.
