Interview Reveals OnePlus Nord 2 Software Build, And ColorOS Info

XDA Developers shared an extensive interview with OnePlus, over the upcoming Nord 2 handset. In that interview, some added information was shared, including some software-related info.

The OnePlus Nord 2 software build revealed in an interview

OnePlus’ Head of Product, Oliver Zhang, confirmed that the Nord 2 will ship with OxygenOS 11.3. He also confirmed that the phone will be the first handset from the company to feature an OxygenOS release based on the integrated codebase (with ColorOS).

As most of you know by now, OnePlus announced its merger with OPPO, to a degree. The two companies will work even closer together now, and OxygenOS and ColorOS are merging, in a way. OnePlus did say that OxygenOS will remain as a separate skin, but will benefit from faster updates thanks to this merger.

Mr. Zhang also said that OnePlus “worked closely with MediaTek”, in order to take full advantage of the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC. In other words, OnePlus wanted to utilize the chip’s AI capabilities to the max.

Those features are AI Resolution Boost, AI Color Boost, AI Photo Enhancements, AI Video Enhancements, and Nightscape Ultra. Based on some added information that Mr. Zhang shared, the Dimensity 1200 could be a great choice for the phone, we’ll see.

OxygenOS – ColorOS codebase merger won’t affect the experience for end-users

The company’s employee also confirmed that the codebase merger won’t affect the OxygenOS experience for end-users. OnePlus will still allow users to unlock the bootloader on the device, which is not something we can say for OPPO smartphones.

The OnePlus Nord 2 will become official on July 22. The phone already surfaced in CAD-based renders, and a new image popped up earlier today. The phone is right around the corner at this point in time.
