Galaxy S21, Z Flip, Note 9 & More Receive The July Security Update

Several more Samsung Galaxy smartphones are starting to pick up the July 2021 Android security update in recent days. Following the US carrier variants of the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy Z Flip, the company has now released the same updates to international versions of these phones. Additionally, the Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy A02s are also receiving the latest security patch.

The July security update for the Galaxy S21 series comes with varying firmware versions depending on the market. In the US, the release is identified by build number G99xUSQS4AUFD. The same update bears firmware version G99xxXXU3AUG4 in European markets while in China, it comes with G99x0ZHS2AUG1. Users in Hong Kong and Taiwan (both G99x0ZHS2AUG2) are also receiving the new update.

It’s unclear if the latest security update for the Galaxy S21 series brings any other changes apart from the vulnerability fixes for this month. Perhaps some Android Auto fixes are part of the new release, as Samsung promised last month. As for vulnerability fixes, the July security maintenance release (SMR) patches dozens of them.

The Galaxy Z Flip is also now receiving the latest SMR internationally. The update bears firmware version F700FXXU6DUF4 and is already available in dozens of markets across Europe and Asia. It was released to US carrier variants earlier this week, with the firmware version F700USQS4DUF1. The Galaxy Z Flip 5G started receiving the new update last week.

We don’t have a changelog for this update either. So it’s not immediately clear if the new software brings any notable user-facing change, apart from those Android Auto fixes, of course.

Last but not least, the July security patch is now rolling out to the Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy A02s as well. The former is currently picking up the new update in Germany, with firmware version N960FXXS8FUF5. The latter, meanwhile, is receiving the latest security update in Brazil. It comes with firmware version A025MUBU2BUF5. Both these updates likely bring the same Android Auto fixes along with the vulnerability fixes for this month. The rollout should expand to more regions in the coming weeks.

How to update Samsung smartphones?

Updating your Samsung smartphone to the latest software over the air (OTA) is fairly simple. You should receive a notification once the update becomes available for your phone. Tapping it will take you to the download page.

Alternatively, you can navigate to Settings >> Software update >> Download and install to check for OTA updates manually. If an update is available, you will be able to download it on the next screen. Once the download completes, follow the instructions on the screen to install the new software.
