The MatePad Pro Is The First Huawei Tablet With HarmonyOS

Huawei has launched a series of new tablets with HarmonyOS to expand its device lineup with a native OS. So HarmonyOS, Huawei’s exclusive operating system, won’t be limited to smartphones and watches anymore.

Huawei’s new tablets are the MatePad 11, 10.8-inch MatePad Pro, and a 12.6-inch MatePad Pro. What makes these devices so special is HarmonyOS as an operating system. After a lengthy legal dispute with the Trump administration, all American companies were banned from doing business with Huawei, and Google stopped offering Android to the Chinese company.

Huawei’s tablets with HarmonyOS are a response to Google

Everyone may have thought that not releasing Android to Huawei would lead to the death of the company and its products, but HarmonyOS was the trump card that kept Huawei alive. Moreover, it is unlikely that the Biden administration will lift Huawei’s sanctions any time soon.

HarmonyOS offers an intimate experience to Android, and even some rumors claimed that it had shared code with Android that allow users to install Android apps on HarmonyOS devices.

Users will have access to the required application through Huawei’s AppGallery. However, there is no denying the fact that HarmonyOS is not yet as rich as Android. Also, the number of applications supported in it may not meet the needs of some professional users.

Huawei used a Snapdragon SoC instead of its own Kirin chip

The 12.6-inch MatePad Pro, as the flagship device in the lineup, features the Kirin 9000E processor. But 10.8-inch MatePad Pro and MatePad 11 come with Snapdragon 870 and Snapdragon 865.

Huawei still hasn’t released detailed specifications of the MatePad Pro or the MatePad 11, but there is some good information about 12.6-inch MatePad Pro that’s popped up.

The biggest in the lineup comes with a 1600 x 2560 OLED screen, which shows a significant improvement, and it even mocks Apple’s iPads with LCD panels. Moreover, the design is impressive, and it has some smooth bezels that encompass the webcam on the top edge. You can also find three-camera at the back, according to leaks from Evan Blass.

As for the battery life, the 12.6-inch MatePad Pro features a 10,050mAh battery. According to Huawei, it can support 14 hours of video playback with a single charge. The battery supports 40W fast-charge with cable and 27W on wireless. The reverse wireless charging is set at 10W. The device also supports an M-Pencil stylus and keyboard.

The price and release date of these devices are unknown yet, and we have to wait for the Huawei announcements.
