Charter has the fastest wireless speeds. Well, according to Fierce Wireless, that’s what the communications company claims. Claims of the fastest wireless network are nothing new. The big three have been fighting over who has the fastest for years. Now, with Chart Communications throwing their hat in the ring things seem to be getting interesting.
See Charter’s MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) is Spectrum Mobile. The funny part is that Spectrum Mobile piggybacks off of Verizon Wireless’ Network. So to claim that it is faster than the network it utilizes is an interesting claim.
Thanks to the Wi-Fi footprint that Spectrum Mobile has access to it says this is why it has the fastest network. Now it makes a bit of sense to make this claim. There are a lot of Wi-Fi hotspots that Spectrum Mobile customers have access to. As a result of this, they have the ability to utilize faster Wi-Fi.
Both Global Wireless Solutions and The Nielsen Co. have data from Q1 of 2021 covering this topic. That data shows that Spectrum Mobile says its customers’ data speeds are faster than the big three mobile carriers.
Numbers show that Spectrum Mobile is 43% faster than Verizon, 41% faster than T-Mobile, and 29% faster than AT&T’s. These numbers are nothing to sneeze at. Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T have been fighting for years about who has the fastest network.
Charter has the fastest wireless speeds thanks to Wi-Fi according to them
Now that Charter is combining their W-Fi, 4G LTE, and 5G together their claim for the fastest network could be true. For a while now, Charter says that they have been comparing the speeds of Spectrum Mobile with other carriers for a few quarters now. So, this claim isn’t being made at random.
One thing that can be pointed out is that Wi-Fi has faster speeds than mobile networks. It has been this way for a long time. Now that Wi-Fi is readily available almost anywhere, Spectrum Mobile customers have access to this faster internet.
80% of Spectrum Mobile’s data happens over Charter’s Wi-Fi. That is a big percentage. Wi-Fi hasn’t always been this readily available almost anywhere. Before you had to take advantage of faster Wi-Fi at home. But now, thanks to Spectrum Mobile bundling its mobile service and home internet service, and in-home Wi-Fi customers can access these faster speeds anywhere.
Charter even says “No longer is Wi-Fi just a supplement to mobile communications; it is the foundation of consumers’ everyday mobile experience.” This statement cements how important and easily accessible Wi-Fi is now.
All in all, Charter claiming that they have the fastest mobile network makes sense. When you look at the entire picture that is. It is good to have more competition. More competition is healthy. If Charter starts nipping at the big three’s heels and stealing their customers, then the big three would have to respond.
Time will tell if Charter’s claims will cause any rumblings in the mobile market.
