Medical tech, VR chat and a Marshmallow announcement – This week in Sony

Whilst we love to brag about our great smartphones, there are actually loads of other Sony products out there – some which you might have never heard of.

Just this week, Sony Professional Solutions Europe announced its first 4K surgical recorder. The brand new ‘HVO-4000 MT’ has been made to record 4K video and still images from endoscopic and laparoscopic camera systems, surgical microscopes and other compatible imaging systems. Pretty clever, right?

The images can then be used for patient records as well as educational purposes and the device is suitable for use in  hospital operating theatres, medical imaging centres, surgical centres, clinics, doctors’ surgeries and similar healthcare environments.

If you’re keen to find out more, simply head over to the Sony Professional Solutions Europe site.

The forum has been created so fans can get together online and discuss all things virtual, from new game launches to VR technology and content. If you’re a VR fanatic, make sure you drop by the new forum.

In other exciting news, Sony Entertainment Television was announced as the official telecasting partner of Times of India Film Awards 2016. The awards, which promise to be the best yet, will see a whole host of A-listers from the Bollywood industry attending and performing on March 18th at Dubai International Stadium. And, what better way to make the most of this than have Sony Entertainment Television deliver broad exposure of the event?

Elsewhere, in the world of Android, Facebook updated its Android Facebook Lite app this past week. The app, used by over 100 million users across 150 countries, offers a stripped-down interface that omits certain features. The new update includes support for video playback as well as the ability to upload multiple photos at once. The app can be downloaded in Google Play Store.

Finally, you may already have seen on Twitter, but this week our Android Marshmallow rollout started for the Xperia Z5 series, Xperia Z4 Tablet &  Xperia Z3+. Rollouts are phased, so please make sure you check locally and watch for the notification. You can find more about the update by watching the below video:

That’s all from the world of Sony this week. Be sure to follow @SonyMobileNews for our latest updates and announcements.
