Samsung announced the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge during MWC 2016. The two handsets integrate some of the most powerful components available such as the Snapdragon 820 processor and 4 GB of RAM. Even with very powerful hardware, software must be properly optimized to provide a smooth and enjoyable experience. Samsung has customized the Android operating system on their devices with an interface called TouchWiz and it has been criticized because it often included many features that were not exactly useful, making the software quite heavy and resulting in a laggy or slow interface, in some cases.

The company has been removing some of the features that were not used so often, so the overall experience in some of their recent handsets has been better. Some lucky T-Mobile users are already receiving their Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones, so a few images of how TouchWiz looks on them have surfaced. It was reported that one of the changes on the new version would be a more consistent iconography thanks to their squircle shape, although it would remain an optional adjustment. Given that the new version of TouchWiz is based on Android Marshmallow, it looks quite similar to the one on older handsets that have been updated to this version of the OS.

The screenshots were taken from a Galaxy S7 Edge, because the new Edge Panels can be seen in one of the screenshots, and this feature remains exclusive to this handset. Some elements such as the Quick Settings tray, Settings menu, Dialer, Messaging app and the Gallery feature a white background contrasted with some bright colors, which might affect battery life on the new Galaxy S7 phones because their displays use AMOLED technology. Luckily, for those who want to save some battery or simply doesn’t like the color scheme chosen by Samsung, there are several themes available which customize most aspects of the UI such as fonts, iconography and the color of some menus. Other screenshots show how Google Now On Tap is implemented on TouchWiz, a tutorial to take screenshots, and the new camera interface with the option to save pictures on the SD card. Reports on the actual performance of TouchWiz will probably start surfacing soon, so hopefully it has been improved as well.
