Camera Hotfix Released For OnePlus X

OnePlus-X-AH-09

The OnePlus X is an interesting device from OnePlus, seemingly breaking the company’s slogan of “never settle” by offering a 2014 flagship specification device late into 2015 and early 2016. However, whereas the OnePlus X has a 2014 flagship specification, this does not mean the device is sluggish. The X is based around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, which is a quad core, 2.3 GHz, 32-bit System-on-Chip backed up by 3 GB of RAM. There’s a 5.0-inch, 1080p display, dual SIM cards, 16 GB of internal storage plus a MicroSD card slot (which is shared with SIM 2), a 13MP rear facing camera and an 8MP front facer, powered by a 2,525 mAh internal battery. Where the OnePlus X scores very highly, however, is in the value for money and how beautiful the device is: this hardware is still easily powerful enough to run the latest versions of Android but is considerably cheaper than buying the latest Qualcomm hardware, even the mid-range chipsets. In essence, the OnePlus X is similar to the 2014 “flagship killer” OnePlus One.

OnePlus use their own operating system for the OnePlus called OxygenOS and based around stock Android. OxygenOS adopts a “stock plus” approach to Android in that it contains many additional features to stock Android but maintains a lean towards being fast and responsive. In late January, OnePlus started rolling out an update to the X’s software, bringing the software version up to OxygenOS 2.2.0. This update introduced some camera features for the OnePlus X, most notably the ability to save images to the MicroSD card and the inclusion of manual mode for the camera.

Unfortunately, some users reported a corruption issue with the main camera following the update. Although it is not clear how many customers have experienced the fault, a month later OnePlus has apologized for the camera issue and started rolling out a hotfix to resolve the problem. The update patch is a little under 10 MB in size and OnePlus have warned customers that the patch started being rolled out on Friday. OnePlus’ stated intention was that all devices would receive the patch by the end of the weekend, so if you own the OnePlus X, your device should now have the update.
