Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa

Inhaling deeply, I could feel the good energy of Mother Earth permeate my body. Sitting in the middle of the labyrinth-patterned enclosure, I calmly soaked in the Zen whilst waiting for the soothing layer of volcanic mud on my skin to solidify.

Words: Irvin Hanni

Surrounded by lush greenery, it was easy to imagine that I was on a remote island, away from civilisation. As I walked to the outdoor shower to rinse off the New Zealand-flown mud full of active minerals and antioxidants, I noticed my travel partner drifting on a floating mat near the cascading waterfalls at the Float Pool. I was actually at the award-winning So Spa, part of the recently rebranded Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa where an extremely indulgent pampering session was underway, and I was the lucky recipient.

I had arrived at the swanky resort the day before, greeted with warm bonjours from the staff who graciously ushered me to my Luxury Room after a breezy check-in. That night, I enjoyed a peaceful slumber thanks to the amazing MyBed™ that was exclusively designed for Sofitel hotels all around the world. Utterly content in my cocoon that was made up of a cosy featherbed complete with silky smooth sheets made from 100 per cent cotton percale, a fluffy goose down duvet, and duck down pillows, it had been quite a struggle deciding whether to stay in or have a lovely day out at the spa.

The spa won, and so began my day of wellness. At So Spa, there are 14 indoor treatment rooms, six outdoor pavilions, a central swimming pool, So Fit gymnasium and The Garden restaurant that offers an excellent menu for health-conscious guests. Other facilities, which include float pools with cascading waterfalls, volcanic mud pools and a labyrinth for meditation, are complimentary with every spa session booked, and there’s even a section for ladies to enjoy all of the above amenities in privacy.

I signed up for their signature Mini Glamfit Experience programme, which is a combination of workout and pampering that is tailor-fit to suit each guest’s needs and wellbeing. My programme started with a one-on-one fitness session where I enjoyed a workout using a Power Plate machine, as well as other exercise tools like ropes and sand pads. To cool down from the light yet rewarding workout, I continued with a private yoga session that helped to restore balance and quiet my mind, allowing me to transit into the spa experience seamlessly.

The pampering session began with a facial therapy using So Spa’s featured product line Cholley from Switzerland, which helped rejuvenate my combination skin. Then, the massage therapist continued with the signature Sentosa Massage, a restorative massage that aims to stimulate energy pathways and recharge overworked muscles. Soothed by the lingering scent of French designer perfumer L’Artisan, I fell asleep and was gently woken by the clear and gentle clink of Tibetan tingsha (prayer cymbals or bells) once it was over.

In between the two programme sessions, I was treated to a hearty lunch at The Garden restaurant. A must-try here is their signature Construction Salad, which guests can design themselves by selecting from over 30 options that include fresh greens, grains, fruits, nuts, and cheese. Other dining options at the resort were a delight to the tummy as well. The spread at Kwee Zeen restaurant that included sushi and sashimi, fresh seafood like king crabs and oyster, as well as a wide array of cheeses on a platter was irresistible! For something lighter on my last day, I headed over to La Bar lounge for delicious tapas that included Tuna Tataki, Singapore Chilli Crab Cakes, and Duck Confit Ball. I appreciated that instead of leaving me sluggish and full, the tapas left me feeling satiated and light.

Taking in the serenity of Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, its exquisitely designed landscape and the beautiful peacocks that seemed to linger everywhere, I reflected on the truly wonderful experience I’d had.

My weekend stay at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa had inspired me to take better care of my health and well-being. Feeling the soothing ministrations of Mother Earth working through my therapists, I was reminded about how important it was to take time out to be good to my body. This was the retreat I’d needed for a long time, and it showed. I felt relaxed, rejuvenated and ready for a new adventure. And that, I believe, is what makes a great wellness getaway.
