Letv is a China-based company which has been around for quite some time, but they haven’t been involved in the smartphone market before April this year. Letv has introduced three devices as part of their ‘Le Superphone’ line in April, and they have managed to peek consumers’ interest, that’s for sure. These three devices have had limited availability, but Letv will probably start selling them in more markets, including the U.S., soon.
That being said, this company, much like Xiaomi, likes to dabble in pretty much anything related to tech. Letv has introduced their 70-inch TV and their first virtual reality headset about a week ago in China. The company’s VR headset is called ‘LeVR Cool 1’, and it costs only $23. This headset wasn’t available for purchase, until now, the company has announced that the device is now available for purchase in their homeland, the pre-order period is now over. Keep in mind that you’ll need to own a Letv Le 1 or Le 1 Pro handsets in order to use LeVR Cool 1.
Now, Letv’s new Virtual Reality headset supports ‘interpupillary distance’, and it also has an adjustable diopter mechanism. The company has also included their Ecosystem User Interface (EUI) into this package, and it is optimized for VR applications, which is one of the reasons you need to own the Le 1 or Le 1 Pro handset. It is also worth mentioning that the headset features a PMMA-based aspherical lens, and an imported optical coating, while a ‘spline interpolating algorithm’ is used to expand your multi-sensory experience and offer you far better immersion.
Many of these terms quite probably don’t mean that much to you, but all in all, they should give you great immersion. We haven’t had a chance to test out Letv’s LeVR headset just yet, but are hoping the company will showcase it during CES (Consumers Electronics Show) in Las Vegas next month, so that we can get some hands-on time with it. It is also possible that this headset will become available to the consumers in the U.S. sometime soon considering Letv plans on bringing more devices to the States in the near future.
