Google Adds Marshmallow Quick Start Guide To The Play Store

While the taste of Android 6.0 Marshmallow is still in everyone’s mouth, Google has added a free quick start guide to the Google Play Store. The 62-page long guide will walk users through the new features of Android. Unlike the major overhaul seen with Android 5.0 Lollipop, Marshmallow is more of a less obvious update. The new operating system does offer some new features such as Google Now on Tap and Doze. Google Now on tap triggers by holding down the home button, which will quickly scan the device’s screen and offer useful information such as restaurant hours, movie descriptions, and celebrity bios without leaving the app. Doze, on the other hand, will keep apps on standby while the phone is idle to preserve battery life. Perhaps one of the most useful features of Marshmallow is formatting MicroSD cards to behave like internal storage. While Google does not promote the use of MicroSD cards with their Nexus devices, this will be a great feature for those who reply on expandable storage.

Speaking of Nexus, they are the first devices that will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow. At an event last month, Google announced that the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9, and Nexus player will receive the update, which is currently rolling out now with an over the air update. Google also announced two new phones that will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, both of which are available to pre-order on the Google Store right now. The Nexus 5X is a mid-range device starting at $379.00 for the 16GB model. If you’re looking for something more premium, the Nexus 6P will run you $499.00 for the 32GB base model. Unlike last year with the Nexus 6, neither of these will be available to buy through carriers. For those of you who don’t own a Nexus and are wondering when they will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, you will have to keep an eye on the device manufacturer’s website for more details. Unless you own an LG G4 as LG has recently announced that the G4 will start seeing the update as soon as next week, starting in Poland.
