Many smartphone OEM’s have gotten rid of microSD cards in favor of cloud storage. Well there are plenty of cloud storage apps and services out there, but which ones are the best? We’ve gathered up some of the best cloud storage apps available on Android today and have made a great list of cloud storage services that you should definitely check out.
Dropbox
Just about everyone has heard of Dropbox, they might have been the first cloud storage solution. Dropbox gives you 2GB of storage for free, but by referring users, following them on social media, etc, you can bump that up to 20GB of free storage. Additionally they can back up your camera roll nicely, so that you’ll have those pictures available on any platform. Including your laptop.
OneDrive
Recently renamed from SkyDrive, Microsoft’s OneDrive is a great solution. Especially if you’re a user of Microsoft Office, as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other Office apps are integrated. OneDrive also features auto-backup for your pictures, which are stored securely where no one else can see them. You get 7GB of storage free, with plans up to 1TB which top out at $6.99 per month.
Google Drive
If you’re a heavy Google user, Google Drive is a no brainer, as it is integrated with everything. Google offers you 15GB of storage (5GB for Gmail, 5GB for Drive and 5GB for Photos, but it’s all lumped into one amount), and offers plans up to 30TB for $299 per month. Google Drive also offers Google Docs integration, which do not count against your quota. Definitely a good idea.
Box
Now Box is more for enterprise users, but you do get 50GB of storage for free. Microsoft’s Office apps are also integrated, but not as well as they are with OneDrive. One of the caveats with Box is the file upload size, however. File size limits are set at about 25MB here with Box. For most, that won’t be an issue, but there will be a few times when you’ll need a bigger quota.
Google Photos
Slightly different from Google Drive above. Photos is for cloud storage of your photos. Now Google offers unlimited storage for photos at full HD quality. While the original file sizes will take up some of your Google Drive space. It’s a great service, with the ability to edit your photos and so much more. Not to mention it’s available on multiple platforms.
Copy
This is a newer cloud storage platform. Copy offers Chromecast support, so you can play files from your Copy account through the browser or through the app. Additionally it features PhotoCopy, which is like the automatic upload for pictures that we see on many of their competitors in this list.
Verizon Cloud
Now this one really only benefit those that use Verizon. But Verizon offers their own cloud service. Verizon Cloud will back up your contacts, photos, videos, music, documents, text and media messages and call logs to the cloud. The company says that they are backed up securely to the cloud. Additionally you get 5GB of storage for free with other options available.
G Cloud Backup
G Cloud Backup backs up a ton of information, including contacts, messages, photos, videos, music, documents, call logs and files. Additionally you start out with 1GB of space, and you can earn up to 10GB of storage for free. While it’s not as giving as these other services, it does give a slightly better experience comparatively.
Amazon Cloud Drive
Amazon Cloud Drive can store just about any type of file, including photos and videos. Those that are Amazon Prime users get unlimited photo backup, with other storage plans beginning at $11.99 a month from Amazon. You can also opt for a 3-month free trial of their Cloud Drive service.
Mega v2
Mega gives you about 50GB of storage for free. Which is plenty of space for all of your photos, videos and other files that you might want to toss up to the cloud. Mega is also available on multiple platforms. Mega makes it easy to share folders and files with your friends and other contacts as well. Allowing you to see changes done in real time.
