Meizu is a rather interesting company. This China-based smartphone OEM isn’t one of the biggest Chinese smartphone OEMs at the moment, but they’re getting there. Despite the fact they’re not at the very top of Chinese smartphone manufacturers, they managed to gather quite the following all over the world, mainly because they release really quality products which don’t cost all that much. That being said, Meizu has already released their flagship for this year, the Meizu MX5. We’ve already reviewed that phone, in case you’d like to check that out.
The company’s VP has confirmed that they’ve decided to cancel the development of MX5 Pro, and basically cancel the whole ‘MX Pro’ line going forward. Meizu will, instead of that, focus on developing a premium offering which will arrive in Q1 2016 (according to rumor). This premium device was mentioned in yesterday’s leaked roadmap, and now we have some additional info when it comes to this phone. According to a report from China, this smartphone will be called ‘Meizu ME5’ and it will sport really compelling specs. The rumor says that the phone will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, and that it will be powered by MediaTek’s Helio X20 64-bit deca-core SoC. The 20-megapixel OIS camera (f/1.8 aperture) will be available on the back of this phone, and the device will be made out of metal. The rumors also states that the phone will sport a glass on the back, and that a fingerprint scanner will also be a part of this package.
Interesting enough, this leak also mentions that the phone will probably sport no bezels on the sides, and 4GB of RAM will probably be included in this handset. The 3,600mAh battery will be included on the inside, and should be more than enough to get you through the day considering these specifications. Now, the most interesting and probably inaccurate part, the rumor says that the phone will cost around 4,999 Yuan ($794), which can’t be right. Meizu is proud of their affordable price points, and 4,999 Yuan really doesn’t seem like an acceptable price point for this company, but we’ll see. That’s pretty much it, take this info with a grain of salt, this is only a rumors, and the phone won’t launch that soon anyhow. We’ll see plenty more rumors like this, but if this rumor is to be believed, the phone will be powered by MediaTek’s SoC, not the Exynos 7420 that was rumored a while back.
