Sony Mobile has formally unveiled its latest mid-range offering, the Xperia M5 (E5603, E5606, E5653) and Xperia M5 Dual (E5633, E5643, E5663), which is a bit of a powerhouse by our reckoning. One of the key features that sets the Xperia M5 apart from other Sony Xperia devices is its camera.
It comes equipped with a 21.5MP Exmor RS sensor with 0.25-second Hybrid Autofocus that utilises Phase detection AF (PDAF) for faster shutter speed response and Contrast detection AF for added precision. Sony hasn’t confirmed chip details, but we would imagine this is the Sony IMX230 sensor.
In terms of specifications, the Xperia M5 is powered by a MediaTek Helio X10 chipset with 2GHz octa-core processor and IMG Rogue G6200 GPU, 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage (with microSD memory card support). The Xperia M5 has a 5-inch (1080 x 1920) IPS display and a ‘two-day’ 2600mAh battery capacity.
Other features include a 13 MP Exmor RS front camera, IP65/IP68 certification for dust and water resistance and capless USB charging. The Xperia M5 has dimensions of 145 x 72 x 7.6 mm and weighs 142.5 grams. It will be available in three colours (Black, White and Gold) when it launches “in selected countries across emerging markets from mid-August” 2015.
