Sony is one of the biggest tech companies in the world, but their Mobile department hasn’t been doing all that well for a while now. Sony Mobile has been having issues turning a profit, and the company is hoping to change that in the near future. They’ve already released one flagship this year, the Xperia Z3+/Z4 (market dependent), but those devices failed to awe people. The company is expected to release their new flagship, the Xperia Z5, during IFA in Berlin which is taking place in early September.
That being said, we’ve seen a number of Xperia Z5 leaks in the last couple of days / weeks. The device’s frame, specs and partial images leaked, and even a hands-on video leaked not long ago. The Xperia Z5 will reportedly arrive in three different variants, the regular Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium. The Xperia Z5 Premium will reportedly going to be the most high-end out of the three, and earlier spec leaks suggested that it will sport a 4K display. That seemed a bit far-fetched back then, but it seems like Sony is actually going to release such a smartphone. According to Engadget, Sony’s marketing director actually confirms that the Xperia Z5 Premium will sport a 4K display (over 800 PPI) in a video embedded down below. The phone will also sport a 23-megapixel rear-facing camera that will be able to autofocus in 0.03 seconds. The 5X digital zoom will also be available here, and the phone will be both dustproof and waterproof (no flaps on the micro USB port). These specs have already been mentioned in a previous spec leak, so it seems like the leaked material is spot on.
What about the rest of its specifications? Well, we’re not sure yet, but a previous leak suggested that both the Z5 and Z5 Premium will be powered by the Snapdragon 810 SoC, and will sport 3GB of RAM along with 32GB of internal storage. The Xperia Z5 will reportedly sport a 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, and all three of these devices are expected to launch in a couple of days during IFA in Berlin. All of this sounds really interesting, and it seems like Sony will actually release a 4K smartphone. Stay tuned for more info, we’ll report back soon.
