Samsung Galaxy J1 To Launch In India At $100

With Samsung finding it hard to compete in the entry and mid-range segments of the smartphone market in key emerging economies, the company is looking to introducing features that have never been seen before at the sub-$100 price point. With the launch of the upcoming Galaxy J1 Ace entry-level smartphone, the company is apparently looking to do just that by slapping a Super AMOLED display panel on a device expected to cost under Rs. 6,500 ($100), when launched in India next month. While the pricing info comes from retailer Mahesh Telecom, who posted the info on its official Twitter account, the Super AMOLED part is revealed by SammyHub, quoting a ‘source’. Samsung had already launched the entry-level Galaxy J1 in the country earlier in the year at a price of Rs. 7,190 ($110). While the device hadn’t exactly set the sales charts on fire, Samsung believes a lower price and a vibrant display will do the trick this time around.

Coming to the only difference the Galaxy J1 Ace will reportedly have with the phone Samsung launched earlier, the new variant will apparently come with a new Super AMOLED 4.3-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) display panel making this smartphone quite possibly the very first sub-$100 handset from a reputable mainstream manufacturer to include the feature. The rest of the hardware for the most part, stays identical to the original Galaxy J1, which is already in the market. The Galaxy J1 Ace is said to be powered by a Marvell PXA1908 SoC, which includes a dual-core processor clocked at a frequency of 1.3 GHz. The device is also expected to come with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by up to 64 GB with the help of a microSD card, as unlike its premium flagships, Samsung has reportedly included a microSD card slot with the entry-level J1 Ace.

The rest of the hardware includes a 5-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 2-megapixel selfie-cam on the front. The device will still only come with 3G connectivity, and have support for Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. The Galaxy J1 Ace is also said to run on Android 4.4 KitKat and come with an 1,800 mAh battery with Ultra Power Saving Mode.
