~ MamakTalk ~: LG Unveils Watch Urbane Luxe, A Luxurious Smartwatch

Android Wear has been announced a while back by Google, and we’ve seen a number of Android Wear-powered smartwatches introduces since then. Samsung, Sony, LG, Motorola… quite a few smartphone OEMs have introduced such smartwatches, and LG is leading the pack by the sheer amount of Android Wear devices they unveiled since the platform exists. LG has showcased the G Watch, G Watch R, and Watch Urbane. That being said, the Watch Urbane is the last smartwatch this Korea-based company has introduced, it arrived back in February. Well, the company has now released a new version of the Watch Urbane, read on.

LG has decided to partner up with the US-based retail jewelry company, REEDS Jewelers, in order to introduce the LG Watch Urbane Luxe, a premium limited edition smartwatch. This smartwatch is a luxurious piece of tech, and is adorned in 23-karat gold, while it also sports the alligator leather strap. LG says that the strap alone had to undergo 50 separate steps in the creation process, and 30 people have actually worked on manufacturing the strap. “Wearable devices shouldn’t be thought of as an extension of one’s smartphone but an extension of oneself. This blending of craftsmanship and technology is a natural evolution of the smartwatch, which is becoming more of a lifestyle accessory than a piece of hardware. We think this is a good direction for wearables and we want to encourage this transformation,” said Chris Yie, Vice President and Head of Marketing Communications at LG. So, this is basically a luxurious variant of the Watch Urbane, the specs are identical.

The company has decided to manufacture only 500 of these watches, and each of them will be engraved with its own serial number for authenticity purposes. The watch will be initially available in the US for pre-order through REEDS.com (later this month), or you can visit one of REEDS’ retail stores. The watch is priced at $1,200, so it definitely isn’t cheap, but it’s not meant to be. Anyhow, if you’re attending IFA this year, you can check out this smartwatch at LG’s booth from September 4-9, considering they’ll be showcasing the device there.
