Chinese smartphone vendor Gionee has just announced the M3S mid-range handset that will reportedly feature a rather large 5,000 mAh battery as its USP. The company is already well-known for its Marathon lineup of devices which come with large batteries, but with the upcoming device, it looks as though the company might well apply that philosophy to at least some of its other devices as well. Reports out of China also seem to indicate that the Gionee M3S has already received certification from the country’s regulator and will soon be available for sale in the country. The smartphone is said to be priced at 1,699 Yuan ($263) when launched, meaning it will be very much a mid-range device. As for the included color options, Gionee will reportedly have only two – black and white.
As for the reported hardware specs, the Gionee M3S is said to sport a 5-inch LCD display panel with a 720p (1280 x 720) resolution. The device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8916 410 SoC, which comes with an embedded quad-core 64-bit CPU clocked at a frequency of 1.2 GHz and an Adreno 306 GPU. The device will reportedly ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop pre-installed, with Gionees’s proprietary Amigo UI 3.1 laid on top. The handset is also expected to come with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, and feature a microSD card slot for capacity expansion. As for the smartphone’s imaging credentials, the handset is said to feature a primary camera with an 8-megapixel CMOS image sensor on the rear and a 5-megapixel secondary camera on the front, to shoot selfies with.
Network support on the Gionee M3S includes 4G (FDD-LTE, TD-LTE), 3G (WCDMA, CDMA2000) and 2G (GSM). As for its LTE connectivity, the phone is said to support Cat.4 LTE standard, which supports theoretical burst download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50 Mbps. The Gionee M3S is expected to come with dual SIM support, which is the norm in most of the markets the device will launch in including of course, China. Both the SIMs slots will only accommodate micro SIMs (3FF). The handset will also support Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi b/g/n (2.4 GHz only).
