Xperia C5 Ultra prototype valued at $12m recovered by Brazilian police

Stolen Xperia C5 Ultra in Brazil_2In an interesting story out of Brazil, it appears that a Sony Xperia C5 Ultra prototype was stolen from a certification forum on 17 July, which the user then tried to sell on an “ebay-like” marketplace. Police say that the prototype was eventually recovered and the thief arrested. The prototype was valued at R$40m (around US$12m), which relates to the development cost of the device.

We started researching and found the Facebook page, then we expressed an interest in buying the device. We set in a diner called Baron Gerard. He was there, he took the phone out and we arrested the suspect red-handed,” said the investigating officer (translated).

The certification company was worried about the leak and said when the unannounced phone hits the market it will cost around R$3000 (US$893). As can be seen from the picture below, the phone has bezel-less sides and a front-facing flash – this ties in with what we have seen of the Xperia C5 Ultra so far.
