The first few screenshots of Sony’s ‘Concept for Android’ Xperia software made an appearance last week, showcasing a stripped down UI – much closer to a stock Android experience. 500 Xperia Z3 owners in Sweden are being selected to trial this new software and it was always likely that it wouldn’t be too long before more screenshots leaked, which is precisely what’s happened.
The Concept for Android software is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and bundled apps are kept to a minimum, although we still noticed that Sony’s Album, Music, What’s New and Xperia Lounge apps were present – along with Sony’s camera app. New updates to the software will appear for the beta testers periodically via OTA, which may change functionality. Do you like what you see below? So far, Sony has always talked about this being a concept only, but we may see this Nexus-like experience hit Xperia devices at some point in the future.
