ZTE has finally announced the third member of the company’s Nubia Z9 family, the ‘bezel-less’ Nubia Z9 flagship itself. The company has announced the Nubia Z9 Max and Z9 Mini a couple of weeks ago, and Z9’s turn has finally come. We’ve already covered the initial announcement of this handset, and are here to take a closer look at the device’s specifications. The Nubia Z9 is a flagship device in every way, shape and form, and it even offers some special functionality which we haven’t seen before.
The Nubia Z9’s design is a combination of metal and glass, you’ll find a metal chassis stuck in between two glass panels which are located on the front and back sides of this device. The Nubia Z9 sports a 5.2-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080, 424 PPI) 2.5D curved glass display, 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32 or 64GB of internal storage. Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor is powering on ZTE’s flagship along with an Adreno 430 GPU which is in charge of graphics. The 16-megapixel CMOS OIS camera is located on the back of this device. We’re looking at f/2.0 aperture here and 1/2.6-inch Sony’s CMOS sensor, in case you want to know the specifics. The 8-megapixel 80-degree wide-angle Sony’s CMOS camera is located on the front side of this device (1.4μm pixel size). ZTE has also packed in what they call ‘NeoVision 5.1′ interface, which is basically another name for their camera UI which offers a ton of options.
The Nubia Z9 will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed with the company’s Nubia UI 3.0 on top of it, a custom UI which is full of all sorts of features. 4G LTE (dual standby) connectivity is also a part of this package, the company’s newest flagship sports both FDD-LTE and TD-LTE bands. Regarding its battery, the Nubia Z9 comes with a 2,900mAh battery unit on the inside. For those of you interested in quality audio output, this handset also sports the new NeoSound 4.0 with AKM4961 sound chip on the inside. Dolby 7.1 surround sound support is also on board here, all you’ll need are quality headphones which ZTE also showcased during the event.
ZTE’s new flagship also sport what the company calls ‘FiT’ or ‘Frame Interaction Technology’. This basically means that you’ll be able to use this device’s curved screen sides in order to activate certain functions on the device. For example, you’ll to lock / unlock the device with a certain swiping action on the sides of the handset itself. If you’d like to see this tech in action, click here. ZTE has also included the fingerprint scanner here, though this time around it’s located on the side of this handset. The company calls this technology ‘TiO’ and we don’t have that many info regarding it just yet. It is also worth mentioning that this handset measures 147.38 × 68.34 × 8.94mm.
UPDATE: The Nubia Z9 is available in three variants, the 32GB, 64GB and 64GB with ZTE’s ‘TiO’ fingerprint scanning technology. These three variants of the device cost 3,499 ($564), 3,999 ($645) and 4,499 Yuan ($726), respectively.
