Top 6 Biggest Mistakes in Marketing your Android App

Google-Play-AH-1-5

We’ve talked about marketing your Android app or game many times already. There are some mistakes that can be made though, so we’re here to talk about those mistakes and hopefully help you out. There are some mistakes that if made, can really hurt your marketing of your brand new app.

Webapps

If you look through Google Play, you will likely see a bunch of apps in there that look pretty old – and let’s be honest here, they look terrible. Those are usually webapps. Basically what that is, is an app that is just a mobile website. Which is almost never a good user experience for your users, unfortunately.

Returning Users Need a Reason to return

We talked about this in previous articles as well, but you need to give your users a reason to return. Recent studies have shown that about 90% of users that download an app only open it once, before deleting it from their smartphone or tablet. A good way to bring users back is by adding new features and such, and making your app evolve over time.

Too Much Marketing on Social Networks

Yes, this is a real thing. If you steadily promote your app on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Instagram. That’s usually a good thing. But, if you overdo the promotion, it can force your followers to unfollow you. Thus giving you fewer eyes on the new app you are promoting. A good rule of thumb is to promote it about twice a day, once in the morning and again in the afternoon or evening. So it’s not overkill.

No Marketing Plan

Yeah, you kinda need a marketing plan for your app. It should be part of the initial planning process for your app. Because without marketing it, it’s not going to do well at all, unfortunately. We’ve talked a lot about marketing apps and such, and one of the easiest ways to market an app is to use an App Review service, it’s a good tool for Android Marketing, as well as promoting your app on other sites and forums.

Turning an App into a Desktop Experience

Many developers might think that making their app look like the desktop is a good thing, but it’s not. It makes the app clunky and just all over the place. Which is not a good experience for users. This always goes back to the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle.

Ignoring your Customers or Users

This is a huge no-no. Your users are basically your customers. Without those users, your app does nothing. It’s just an app in the Play Store that may get downloaded and never opened. Which is not what developers want. Developers want to make an app that will be one of the mot popular apps on the Play Store. So it’s important to listen to your customers. If there’s a feature they want, it’s probably a good idea to look at adding it to the app.
