Samsung to Announce the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and Tab S2 9.7 in June

Last year, Samsung announced a new line of tablets, known as the Galaxy Tab S. They were the first line of tablets – since the original Galaxy Tab 7 – to feature an AMOLED display. As all the others were just LCD. They featured 2560×1600 resolution AMOLED displays at that, and they were beautiful! The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and 10.5 were pretty amazing devices, and it looks like Samsung is planning to upgrade them this year. However, we’re not too sure on that name.

According to Sammobile, it appears that Samsung is looking to announced the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 next month. Sammobile reports that there will be four variants of the tablet available. With Samsung doing WiFi only and WiFi with LTE for each screen size. They will all be announced in June and available worldwide (no date on availability though). They will be available in the US, Canada, as well as European markets, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Latin America and India.

Sammobile also believes that the Galaxy Tab S2 will be made of metal, similar to the Galaxy S6. It’s also going to be using a 64-bit Exynos Processor, 3GB of RAM, along with 32GB of storage and a microSD card slot. It’ll be running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with Samsung’s overlay on top. It will have a slightly lower resolution display compared to the Galaxy Tab S. Rumor is a 2048×1536 resolution Super AMOLED display. Along with a 8MP camera on the back and a 2.1MP front-facing camera.

These tablets appear to be in a strange spot, however it appears that Samsung is adopting the 4:3 aspect ratio as they did with the recent Galaxy Tab A – which went on sale in the US last week. The resolution on the Galaxy Tab S2 is actually the same as the Nexus 9 and the iPad Air and Air 2. It will be interesting to see if Samsung just drops a press release, like they did for the Galaxy Tab A, or if they’ll do a full blown event (likely in New York City) for the Galaxy Tab S2. We’ll have to wait and see.
