Samsung Reports Gold Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge Demand Bigger Than Expected In Europe

Since Samsung unveiled their latest smartphone(s) at this year’s MWC event, much of the world has been in awe. The two devices, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are packed with high-end features and a premium build which seems to have captured the attention of the consumers as a whole. In particular, the Edge variant seems to have specifically attracted attention with its sloping curves and dual-edged nature. Well, the latest news coming from Samsung is that it is not only the S6 Edge which is proving popular. But instead, the gold variant (Platinum Gold) of both the S6 and S6 Edge seem to be proving very popular. Especially in Europe.

According to the details from Samsung, the gold variant of the S6 in Europe has accounted for 23% of all S6 and S6 Edge demand within the region. This equates to almost one in four consumers wanted the gold version in particular. Traditionally, black and white variants and colors are usually the most popular and this had been what Samsung has expected to be the case with the twin S6 devices. However, with the recent surge in demand for the gold version, Samsung have admitted that this has taken them by surprise and forced them to “intensify our production of Gold Platinum to keep up with demand”. In fact, Samsung notes the issue is so prevalent in Europe, that stock of the gold S6 and S6 Edge is now close to being completely sold out.

Interestingly, Samsung has adopted a Psychology perspective in their reporting of the news and looking to explain what Samsung refer to as a “clear shift in European colour preference.” Samsung have also referred to Donna Dawson, who is a Lifestyle Psychologist to help explain that those choosing the gold colour as a preferred color choice are more likely to be “striving for prosperity, financial success and general contentment’. In contrast, those opting for the white color (White Pearl) are more likely to be “status-seeking extroverts”. Not forgetting, those who choose black (Black Sapphire) more interesting in the “dual meaning” of the color. Regardless of whether you agree with the comments on why someone may opt for gold over black or white, it does seem that the fascination with the twin S6s and its premium aspects continues. While the Edge remains to be a popular choice, the latest is that the gold version of both is equally as popular. That is, in Europe anyway.
