Alienware 4K Laptop Nearing the $1K Price Point

We saw it on HDTVs, but now 4K laptops are starting to drop in price. This is especially apparent today with the deal on an Alienware 15 gaming laptop at the Microsoft Store. Normally priced well over $2,000, this week the machine got an instant discount down to $1,699, plus there’s a coupon code available cutting the price further to only $1,599. It’s the lowest price this machine has ever been by hundreds.

  • Alienware 15 4K Gaming Laptop — $1,599 (list $1,899)
  • Use Coupon Code: PCGRAD15
  • Core i7-4710HQ
  • 15.6-inch 2160p Touch Display
  • GeForce GTX 970M
  • 1TB HDD + 256GB SSD
  • 16GB RAM

Trying to buy the same Alienware machine direct will cost you a whole lot more. First off, Alienware sells its laptops through Dell Home. Going there and looking at the Alienware 15 you won’t even find this exact same configuration, so you’d have to customize to equate to the Microsoft Store machine above. Once you’ve done so, you’ll get a final price of $2,199! That’s a whopping $600 more than the above deal.

If you just look at the image up top, you might notice that the Alienware is a bit of a brick. Yeah, it’s huge, and it weighs a whopping 7 pounds. That’s quite a bit heftier than your average 3 pound Ultrabook, but you should know that’s what Alienware was going for. It’s heavy because Alienware doesn’t skimp on parts, notably cooling and aesthetic lighting.

You can find cheaper gaming laptops out there like Lenovo’s Y40 for as low as $629, but those machines can only handle so much in the graphics department before they overheat. With a Geforce GTX 970M graphics card and a 4K display, you simply need a better cooling system to handle it all, and thankfully this Alienware 15 has the specs to do so for the latest video games.
