Motorola Moto G Google Play Edition Owners Begin Receiving OTA For Android 5.1 Lollipop

Lollipop-AH-1

While some devices like the Sony Xperia Z3 just started getting a larger expansion of the roll out for Android 5.0, owners of the Google Play Edition of the Motorola Moto G are now starting to receive the over-the-air update to Android 5.1. The Moto G GPe isn’t the first device to get 5.1 Lollipop, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting for users of the device. Since the update is now beginning to roll out over the air, users can begin checking to see if the software is available to pull down from the airwaves on their own phone, however it could take the next few days to a week to reach all users.

If you aren’t someone who doesn’t mind waiting for the software package to hit your device on its own time officially, you can proceed to download and install the OTA update and flash it manually, as we have the link for you to grab the download package here. Keep in mind that if you choose to download the OTA you will want to make sure you know the steps involved. It isn’t overly difficult to download and install the OTA file manually, but it isn’t as simple as hitting the update button on your device when the notification comes through over-the-air. The build that is currently rolling out is LMY47M bringing the Moto G GPe forward from build LRX21Z.

In addition to brushing up on the manual update process, it might be a good idea to ensure you have at least half the battery life left on your device so it doesn’t shut down during the update process, and make sure you have enough storage space on your phone to make room for the update package, which comes in at 171MB. This isn’t a huge file compared to Android 5.0, but storage can fill up quickly so it’s just a good idea to check. Android 5.1 Lollipop is mostly about bug fixes and improvements, although there are a few new features and changes that are worth noting, like HD Voice (for compatible devices only) Device Protection, Dual-SIM support and a few other minor tweaks.
