We’ve been seeing all sorts of “smart” devices being launched lately. Smartphones have become a standard a long time ago, and smartbands and smartwatches are slowly becoming mainstream as well. A number of tech companies are planning to release all sorts of other odd “smart” gadgets though. I don’t know if you recall this, but BeBop actually unveiled smart fabric sensors at the end of last year, which can actually be sewn into clothes. This offers manufacturers all sorts of possibilities, and we’ve already seen some reports about a smart shirt and what not. Well, it seems like Xiaomi intends to manufacture additional ‘smart’ products, we’re talking about smart shoes this time around.
According to the latest report by Reuters, Xiaomi is teaming up with China’s Li Ning Co Ltd in order to produce a line of “smart” running shoes by the end of this year. Li Ning isn’t doing all that well as far as profits go, and it’s looking for something to boost their income. The company said back in January that they’re planning to re-structure, and it seems like the two companies are now partnering up. Xiaomi, on the other hand, is doing great. This China-based tech company keeps on growing and have a number of exciting products planned for this year, and will also expand to other markets outside of China. Xiaomi already manufactures all sorts of tech gadgets, and it seems like they’re preparing to release a line of smart running shoes.
Li Ning actually partnered up with Huami Technology, which is a fitness wearable company responsible for the Mi Band, and owned by Xiaomi. “We have chosen to collaborate with the Mi band because of Huami Technology’s strength in “smart” wearable products. We hope to use this opportunity to provide professional “smart” running shoes to running enthusiasts in China at an affordable price,” said Li Ning. How will this work? Well, ‘smart’ chips will be placed inside of Li Ning’s running shoes, and connect to smartphones via Xiaomi’s mobile app. This will, of course, allow people to track their progress and results while running.
There you have it. We’ll probably hear more about this in the coming weeks, and as soon as we get some extra info, we’ll let you know. In the meantime, let us know what you think about all this.
