After a significant number of teasers, ZTE has finally announced their Nubia Z9 Max and Z9 Mini devices, a part of their Nubia Z9 flagship line. Interesting enough, the company did not opt to launch the Nubia Z9 along with these two handsets, unfortunately. The Nubia Z9 was leaking the most in the last couple of months, touting the bezel-free experience. This Chinese smartphone OEM is expected to announce the Nubia Z9 in the coming weeks, though we’re only guessing at this point, no official information has been provided at this time. Keep in mind that they’ve launched the whole Nubia Z7 line (3 devices) back in July 2014, so this is a bit unorthodox for ZTE. We’ll see what happens, stay tuned.
That being said, the company has also launched first promo videos for their new devices. If you take a look below this article, you’ll notice there are two embedded videos down there. The first one regards the Nubia Z9 Max, and it puts an emphasis on the device’s design. The second video is presenting the Nubia Z9 Mini, and it’s a bit more playful than the first one. It shows some UI action, as well as the design of the device along with the back covers that will be available. The Nubia Z9 Max costs 2,499 Yuan ($402) in China, while the Nubia Z9 Mini is priced at 1,499 Yuan ($241). ZTE did not release any information about the availability of these devices outside of China, but we expect them to do so soon.
Both of these handsets come with Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed with ZTE’s Nubia UI 2.8 on top of it. Both of them will ship with 16GB of expandable internal storage, and sport the same camera sensors. The 16-megapixel CMOS snapper is located on the back of these two devices and is flanked by an LED flash, while there’s an 8-megapixel shooter up front. The two hadnsets also look identical as far as the design goes, but the difference is in their size. The Nubia Z9 Max features a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) panel, while the Nubia Z9 Mini sports a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) panel. The Nubia Z9 Max comes with 3GB of DDR4 RAM and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core chip, while the Nubia Z9 Mini sports 2GB of RAM and is powered by the Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core SoC.
