The man behind Twitter account @OnLeaks, Steve Hemmerstoffer, has released additional information about the Huawei Ascend P8, the next flagship device from Chinese manufacturer Huawei. We believe that the new Ascend P8 is due to be revealed on the 15 April, just a few weeks away. Steve has revealed a document that shows more information about the unannounced P8 including the dimensions and several details about the device. The document is alleged to have come from the factory and the schematics were used a few months earlier to produce a batch of prototypes. Now, of course this means that the final device may well differ from the schematics showing here.
These schematics show that the Ascend P8 is 144.9mm long, 71.9mm wide and 6.6mm thick. To put this into context, the P8 is broadly similar in size to the Samsung Galaxy S6 – it’s slightly longer, wider and marginally thinner. The older Ascend P7, and the previous Huawei flagship device, is shorter, narrower but 0.1mm thinner at 6.5mm. The small increase in device dimensions allows the P8 to accommodate a slightly larger screen, now 5.2-inch rather than the 5.0-inch of the previous model. This screen is likely to be 1080p resolution, given Huawei’s desire to keep battery life as a priority. There’s a single camera sensor at the back, which is believed to be a 13 MP sensor, equipped with a dual LED flash and below this, an unusual rectangle. We don’t yet know what this rectangle is but we’ve seen rumors that it is a biometric or fingerprint sensor.
Other rumored specifications of the device include the Hisilicon Kirin 930 processor, a new generation, 64-bit design with eight processor cores and clocked at up to 2.0 GHz. On paper, the Kirin 930 looks to sit very much alongside the Snapdragon 810 and Exynos 7420 as used in the HTC One M9 and Galaxy S6. It’s built on a 16nm die size, which is between the state of the art Samsung Exynos’ 14nm and the Snapdragon 810’s 20nm: this means that, all being equal, the Kirin 930 will sit between these two industry heavyweights when it comes to performance, power consumption and heat output. The Ascend is also expected to be equipped with a healthy 3 GB of RAM, so we may expect the new P8 to perform well. We find out in a few weeks time but meanwhile, what do you think of the design and rumored specification?
