Samsung Officially Unveil The Samsung Galaxy S6 At MWC 2015

Galaxy S6 Announce AH1

Today Samsung took to the stage at MWC for their Samsung Unpacked 2015 event. As had been expected the key announcement at today’s event was the unveiling of the next generation Galaxy device, the Samsung Galaxy S6. This has been a highly rumored device in terms of what specs, variants and features. However, now the dust is settling and there is confirmation on what to expect from the next generation Galaxy smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display sporting a Quad-HD 2560 x 1440p display (577 ppi). The front of the display on both devices is coated in Gorilla Glass 4. Moving on to the back of the device, the plastic from previous generations has been completely removed with the rear of the device also coated in Gorilla Glass 4. The front and back are united by an aluminium frame which runs around the device, much like on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. In terms of the back and as previously expected, the camera LED flash had indeed been moved from beneath the camera lens to the right. Due to the nature of the glass/aluminium back cover, this is a non-removable cover. As a result, this also means the batteries are no longer swappable and instead a non-removable 2,550mAh battery is included.

Moving internally, the Samsung Galaxy S6 comes equipped with 3GB RAM and will be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 7420 Octa-core processor (four 1.5 GHz Cortex A53 cores and four 2.1 GHz Cortex A57 cores), along with a Mali T760 GPU. In terms of memory, the Galaxy S6 will be available in three memory formats, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. The change to a bigger internal storage module sees the end of Samsung including a microSD card slot in their Galaxy Devices. In terms of cameras, the Galaxy S6 comes equipped with a 16-megapixel rear shooter with an f/1.9 aperture, resulting in better low-light taken images. Camera features include Optical Image stabilization (OIS) and LED flash. The rear camera will be joined by a 5-megapixel front-facing option. Additionally, the Galaxy S6 will come running on Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop) out of the box with Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI on top. Powering everything, will be a 2,550mAh battery which will work in sync with the Exynos processor to reduce battery consumption.

In terms of features, there is some notable difference between the Galaxy S6 and its predecessors. As noted, the S6 will come with TouchWiz overlaid although, the software is toned down with a number of Samsung own apps removed. That said, there is the inclusion of some corporate app offerings like Flipboard, Microsoft Outlook and so on. One of the more novel features is that the Galaxy S6 will come with wireless charging built-in to the device. The fingerprint sensor has also been redesigned and now no longer requires a swiping action and instead is far more responsive to touching. Not to mention the device also comes with numerous sensors, such as a heart rate monitor, accelerometer, gyro, and compass. It was also announced today that the Galaxy S6 will come with Samsung Pay built in. The Samsung Galaxy S6 will be available April 10th in select regions and made available more widely over the following months and available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum and Blue Topaz colors.
