Samsung Hasn’t started Working with Android 5.1, Also no Lollipop yet for the Galaxy Note 2

A few Samsung rumors coming out of Sammobile this morning. One that a lot of people may or may not be surprised at is the fact that Samsung hasn’t started working on Lollipop for the Galaxy Note 2. While Samsung Finland had confirmed the device would get the update, there’s still no work being done on it, additionally, Sammobile’s insider says that there hasn’t even been a mention of Lollipop for the Galaxy Note 2, internally.

Next up is Android 5.1. According to Sammobile, Samsung has not started working with Android 5.1 source code just yet. While it is a bug fixer – mostly – it’d still be nice to see Samsung pushing that out instead of Android 5.0.x on some of their flagship devices. Android 5.1 has been out for a few weeks now, so it’s not too surprising that they haven’t started work on it. Hopefully they’ll start integrating it into their existing codebase soon. I’m sure a lot of Samsung users would love to get Android 5.1 instead of Android 5.0.x.

Finally, the Samsung Galaxy A series of smartphones appears to be next in line for Android 5.0 Lollipop. Lollipop is being prepared for the Galaxy A3, A5 and A7. These are Samsung’s new premium mid-range smartphones. They fall in line with the Galaxy Alpha, which they released here in the US late last year. Per usual, there’s no ETA on the update just yet, but it is being worked on, so if you own the Galaxy A3, A5 or A7, rest assured you’ll be getting Lollipop when it’s ready. This is something you don’t want to rush as it’ll come out with a slew of bugs, and no one wants that, especially Samsung.

A bit sad to see that the Galaxy Note 2 doesn’t appear to be getting Android 5.0, but it is about 2 years old now so it can’t be too surprising. Just yesterday, we heard from HTC that the One M7 wasn’t going to get anything past Android 5.0. The HTC One M7 did come out about 6 months after the Galaxy Note 2 though. We should learn more about the situation with the Galaxy Note 2 pretty soon from Samsung.
