Today, Samsung has begun rolling out the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop to their Galaxy Tab S 10.5 users that are located in France, Canada and the US. With more countries to follow. We’re looking at Android 5.0.2 in this update. It’s not the most recent version of Android – which is Android 5.1 – but it’s better than still being on Android 4.4.4 KitKat, right? It appears to only be available for the WiFi versions in these three countries, and not the Cellular versions, our guess is those are still being baked.
Note that the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 isn’t getting the Lollipop updated just yet, for now it’s only the Galaxy Tab S 10.5. Although, seeing as the tablets are identical, hardware-wise, aside from the screen size. We should be seeing the update pretty soon. As always we’ll let you know as soon as it’s available.
The Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is available on Kies, as well as through SamMobile’s repo (link in the sources section below) of Samsung firmwares. Which you can flash onto your tablet through Samsung’s Kies software, or you can just sit back and wait for the OTA to hit your device. Which is should start pushing out in the next few days.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is a 10.5-inch AMOLED tablet that Samsung announced last Spring. It’s their first tablet with a Super AMOLED display, and first with an AMOLED display since the original Galaxy Tab 7-inch over 4 years ago. It also features a Snapdragon 800 processor inside, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It’s definitely a high-end tablet here for those looking for one. The Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is often on sale as well.
We heard not too long ago, that Samsung hasn’t even started working on Android 5.1 just yet. So it shouldn’t be a huge surprise to see them rolling out Android 5.0.2 to their tablets and smartphones instead of the most recent, Android 5.1 build. While it is just a bug fixer, for the most part, it does have some new features and feature enhancements over Android 5.0.x. We should start seeing a lot more Lollipop OTA’s coming out though, for Samsung devices and other manufacturers.
