Samsung and LG Have Come to An Agreement on Damaged Samsung Washers

You may remember about a month ago, we heard that one of LG’s execs was indicted for damaging some of Samsung’s washer machines. The exec was LG Appliances chief Jo Seong-jin. He was charged with deliberately damaging Samsung washing machines at a retail store in Germany late last year. So far, prosecutors have not declared what penalty or punishment they are seeking against Jo and LG. Yesterday, the two South Korean companies stated in a joint statement that they would withdraw all complaints against each other and ask legal authorities to refrain from dishing out harsh punishments in ongoing cases. Meaning they have resolved this issue. Which is nice to see from two of the biggest Android OEMs, even though this is about washer machines. Seeing as both LG and Samsung make just about everything under the sun.

There’s been a lot going on in this case over the last few months. Including mockery done at both company’s expense. The two also bickered over how many washers were damaged by Jo and other LG employees. LG even published surveillance footage on YouTube to prove Jo’s innocence. However, Samsung stated that the video was heavily edited. And edited in Jo’s favor. This isn’t the first time the appliance business of LG and Samsung have had issues. They’ve also had arguments over refrigerator capacity, and who had the bigger air-conditioning market share. “Both sides have agreed to avoid legal action and resolve any future conflicts or disputes through dialogue and mutual agreement,” stated LG and Samsung.

This agreement is also extended to LG Display Co Ltd as well as Samsung Display. Samsun Display employees were indicted in February on charges of stealing OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display panel technology from LG Display. Samsung Display has said that the technology was widely known in the industry and that the indictment was excessive.

Now that the two South Korean tech giants have come to agreements, we shouldn’t be seeing any other cases between the two. At least we hope. And hopefully Jo has learned his lesson and won’t be damaging his competitors appliances any more.
