Rumor: Xiaomi’s Second-Gen Smartband To Retain The Mi Band’s Price And Introduce A Display

MiBand

Xiaomi has announced their Mi Band wearable back in July last year. This smartband is a small, useful and a really cheap smartband. The Mi Band (pictured above) costs only 79 Yuan ($13) in China, though the price is a bit higher if you get it via resellers, considering it’s not available worldwide at the moment. There was some talk back in January that Xiaomi is planning to release the successor to the Mi Band, but they still didn’t announce anything of the sort. Xiaomi did, however, launched a bunch of smart gadgets this year, including the company’s new flagships, the Mi Note and the Mi Note Pro. Anyhow, a new report surfaced in China, revealing some extra info on Xiaomi’s upcoming second-gen Mi Band.

According to this rumor, the Mi Band 2 (or whatever the company opts to name it in the end) will be bigger than the current-gen band. That’s not all though, this gadget will allegedly sport a display this time around, along with a bigger battery. Xiaomi reportedly intends to include a display instead of the 3 LED light that are available now, and the device will also keep its 79 Yuan ($13) price it seems. The rumor also says that this Chinese smartphone manufacturer might let consumers personalize the Mi Band 2 to some extent, and there will be a bunch of various colors available at launch.

This rumor didn’t give us any information on when might we expect this smartband to launch, but we’ll hopefully manage to get some extra information soon. The first Mi Band launched back in July, so we might assume that its successor will arrive mid-2015. This China-based smartphone manufacturer is expected to launch a number of devices in the coming months, and Mi Band 2 will almost certainly be amongst them. As a side note, the Redmi Note 2 and Mi 5 handsets are also expected to arrive in the next couple of months. Xiaomi has big plans for this year, and they’ll need a lot of firepower to meet their goal and sell 100 million smartphones by the end of this year. That being said, have you had the chance to play around with the Mi Band? Do you own one perhaps?
