Facebook has announced a new menu item that will be available to users on both the desktop and in their mobile apps. The new On This Day feature shows content from this date in the past that a user may have shared. That can include posts, photos, posts from friends who tagged you, and other content that is somehow connected to your profile. The feature does not look back just one year – it will check all previous years for anything posted on the same date.
Facebook says the content that shows up in the new On This Day feed will only be visible to users, although they can decide to share it (again) with their friends or followers. In addition, users can choose whether they want to receive notifications about content that shows up on the look back page. Besides sharing posts again, Facebook also points out that this could be used as a tool to edit or delete old posts that perhaps you may not want out there any longer.
Facebook says they have started rolling out the new feature to users globally, but it may take some time to reach your account given the size of their user base. You can check for On This Day availability on your profile and set your preferences by pointing your browser to www.facebook.com/onthisday.
