HTC’s Lead Designer Departs, Company Announces Daniel Hundt to Take Over

After not even a full year in his new role, HTC’s VP of Industrial Design, Jonah Becker, is departing the company. For a bit of context, in late 2008, HTC acquired One & Co, which was led by Scott Croyle, Jonah Becker, and Daniel Hundt.

Scott Croyle left HTC in April of 2014, and at that time, Jonah Becker took over his role. Now with Croyle and Becker gone, HTC announced that Hundt, the last remaining piece of One & Co, will succeed the position.

Breaking the news on Twitter, Becker states that it has been an, “amazing seventeen year journey with One & Co and HTC, but it’s time for a new adventure.”

As reported by Engadget, the move may be due to an “ever increasing power struggle” between HTC’s design team and the company’s sales team. It is claimed that the company’s move from an UltraPixel rear-facing camera to a more standard 20MP camera is an example of this “power struggle.”

This news comes only one week after HTC’s Peter Chou stepped down as CEO, making way for Cher Wang, who now oversees all things HTC.

There is no doubt that the One M7 and One M8 pushed the design standard set on smartphones. They are gorgeous. Now, in the years to come, we shall see what HTC intends to do.
