Amazon’s Fire TV Stick Making it’s way into the UK and Germany, Changes Coming to the Fire TV

Last year, Amazon announced the Fire TV, which admittedly a lot of us didn’t think would do to well with Android TV right around the corner. However, Amazon has done pretty well with their Fire TV platform. Consistently adding more content and more features. Today, they’ve announced that our friends over in the UK and Germany are going to be able to buy the Fire TV Stick on April 15th for £35. Which is the same price as it is here in the US. However, that’s not all Amazon is announcing today.

Amazon has a few announcements for the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. One is the ability to connect to your hotel or dorm room WiFi. This is an issue for a lot of people because these networks usually require authentication through Kerberos or Active Directory. However, you can now do so with the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. They’ve also added private listening on the Fire TV. So you can enjoy your favorite movies and TV shows after the kids are asleep. The Fire TV now supports Bluetooth headphones. So just pair up your headphones and listen to your movie. We can also now connect a USB flash drive or external hard drive to the Fire TV for storage. It can store downloaded apps, and games. This makes it easier for you to download more games, and still have access to all your content.

There’s a few more features that Amazon has added to the platform, but some pretty big changes coming. And we aren’t even looking at new hardware yet. We may or may not get a refresh of the Fire TV this year. Seeing as it does still run pretty decently, and it does have flagship specs, I wouldn’t count on it. After all, it does have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 inside. We’ve reviewed both the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick and loved them both, but remember they do lack Google services. Which means no Play Store, no Google Play Games, nothing that Google has developed. If that’s a downside for you, then you may want to check out the Nexus Player.
