It’s gotten to the point where we can do almost anything with our smartphones, within reason of course. I mean, we can’t tell our smartphones to make coffee. Oh wait, yes we can thanks to new smart coffee makers that are scheduled to hit the market this year. Now, one of the things you probably dread the most, shipping packages, can be done from your smartphone as well through use of an application that just landed on the Play Store called Shyp. After using this only a handful of times you’ll probably begin to notice why The New York Times called Shyp “magical,” because with Shyp there’s no more having to find the right size package, get everything taped up, and no more travel time between home or work and the closest store of your preferred shipping method.
Shyp works like this. You tell the app what you want shipped by taking a picture of it, then proceeding to enter in the data for your residence and where the package is going and how you want to ship it, I.E. standard, 2-day, overnight etc. Once everything is all said and done someone from Shyp will come to your home in about 20 minutes, and take care of everything from that point on. This includes packaging everything up, comparing prices based off of your chosen ship method and driving it to whatever shipping business has the best rate whether it be FedEx, DHL, UPS, or the good old fashioned U.S. Postal Service.
Shyp is calling this service they provide “shipping on demand”, which also provides you with the tracking information so you know where the package is at and when it arrives at its intended location. Shipping packages just got a whole lot easier and faster. Shyp even insures the items for up to $1,000, although they will insure the package for more upon your request. They seem to have a slightly longer set of operational hours than most places too, as they will be available for shipping from 8 am to 8 pm seven days a week. That’s pretty impressive and plenty of time during the day to get things settled if you want things going out on time.
