Xiaomi did a great job in 2014, and the company started this year with a bang. They’ve launched a slew of devices already and we’re still in January. The company has announced the Redmi 2, Mi Note and Mi Note Pro handsets, as well as Mi Headphones and Mi Box Mini smart gadgets. Company’s CEO has also confirmed that the 2GB version of the Redmi 2 is on its way, basically announced the thing recently. This is a lot of hardware to announce in a month, but Xiaomi’s apetite for success is huge, this is one of the fastest growing smartphone manufacturers in the world we’re talking about here.
That being said, a new report surfaced, saying that the company plans to launch its own “Mi.com” website in India and sell their smartphones that way instead of going through Flipkart to do it. This will allegedly happen latter in the year, specific timeframe wasn’t givent hough. This comes after the report that Xiaomi plans to set up their very own Research and Development (R&D) unit in Bangalore, India. Xiaomi plans all sorts of expansions this year, and it seems like India will be a huge part of their plans, something that we expected, but still, Xiaomi is going all in here
“We are currently looking for warehousing and logistics partners in India, as well as deciding on a payment mechanisms like cash on delivery. It may take anywhere between three to nine months,” said Manu Jain, Head of Xiaomi India, in his latest interview with PTI. Let me just remind you that Xiaomi has recently launched their Mi4 handset in India, as well as Redmi 1S and Redmi Note 4G handsets before it. Indian market is the second biggest market in the world, right below China, so no wonder Xiaomi wants to enter the market properly
Another possible destination for the company is Latin America, Brazil to be more accurate. Xiaomi has said that they’ll announce their expansion plans next month, which means everything will be reavealed really soon. Stay tuned in the meantime, I’m sure we’ll get some additional info soon.
