This year has been extremely successful for Xiaomi. The company managed to sell tons of their devices and make great progress as far as expansion plans go. Xiaomi planned to sell 60 million devices by the end of 2014 and that will happen (if it hasn’t already), which is a huge difference compared to 2013 considering that this Chinese OEM sold “only” 19 million devices last year. The company has planned to move 100 million devices in 2015, but they hit their first obstacle on that path. You might recall that about 2 days ago, New Delhi High Court ordered Xiaomi to stop doing business in India considering they infringed on eight of Ericsson’s patents, at least according to that Swedish company. Ericsson said that they tried to contact Xiaomi on multiple occasions, but that the Chinese company wasn’t cooperative. On the other hand, Xiaomi said that it will investigate the situation and talk to Ericsson.
We have some new developments to share with you. Xiaomi has now officially notified the public that the sales of Redmi 1S and Redmi Note handsets via Flipkart (Indian retailer) have stopped. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note handset was supposed to go on one of Xiaomi’s “Flash Sales” on Flipkart on December 16th, but it seems like that’s not going to happen. This Indian retailer has stopped taking registrations for the device. Redmi 1S is out of stock at Flipkart and the device probably won’t be available before February 5th 2015, considering the sales ban will stay put until at least that date. Xiaomi’s VP of Global, Hugo Barra, posted a statement on company’s official website as well as Facebook in order to explain the situation. You can check out the full statement in an image below this article, but before you do that, please share your thoughts with us regarding this whole situation. I’m sure opinions differ as far as this topic goes, so I’d really like to hear what you guys think. Do you believe Xiaomi will keep on having similar issues, or will the company manage to solve such problems quickly and avoid such injunctions in the future?
