US ITC To Investigate Samsung’s Nvidia Complaint

Samsung is having a lot on their plate at the moment. Company’s profit is significantly dropping lately due to weak sales, U.S. is basically the only market Samsung managed to avoid a drop in sales in the last couple of quarters. This is not the only thing Samsung has to worry about at the moment though, the company is battling Nvidia in court. What’s this all about? Well, the US ITC (United States International Trade Agency) is about to start investigating Nvidia considering that Samsung has filed complaints last month against that US-based company. Nvidia has allegedly infringed upon some of Samsung’s patents in the GPU department.

This is actually Samsung’s response to Nvidia’s actions against the Korean tech giant. The two companies have been going back and forth for a while now, they’ve sued each other in federal district courts in Virginia and Delaware already. “This is typical legal ping pong,” said David Shannon, chief administrative officer at Nvidia. The reason why Samsung decided for this move is the fact ITC usually moves faster than other civil courts and if someone is found guilty, they usually ban the company from importing and selling their products in the US. David Shannon also added: “Nvidia remains focused on ensuring that we receive fair compensation from Samsung for using our technology in Galaxy phones and tablets”.

These lawsuits for infringing patents are becoming really irritating to people who love mobile technology, mainly because of Samsung and Apple who have been going back and forth for a long time now. We’ve been hearing about these two companies suing each other all over the place, luckily we’re not getting much of these lawsuits lately (with the exception of OnePlus, Cyanogen and Micromax’s ‘love triangle’). Nvidia has also filed lawsuits against Samsung and Qualcomm earlier this year because those two companies allegedly infringed on seven Nvidia graphics chips patents.

I’m sure this legal battle will take some time to end and we’ll hear more about it soon, unfortunately. I just hope they wrap this up as soon as possible. Your thoughts?
