Battery is easily one of the most important factors for many consumers when choosing a new smartphone, but durability is never too far out of thought these days either, as we want to make sure that our devices can hold up during daily use and even withstand a little damage should we accidentally drop them or bang them against a counter or two. We always recommend of course to be as careful as possible as most phones aren’t designed for extreme damage or conditions, but they are tested to some degree to have a little protection.
One might not think of the Sony Xperia Z3 as a tough device, but you might be surprised to find out that it’s a little tougher than you think. I, for example, dropped mine just the other day and there isn’t a scratch on it. This isn’t about my Xperia Z3 though, it’s about this video in which an individual drop tests the Xperia Z3 to see how well it can withstand the damage before breaking or cracking either on the display or the glass back. In the video, the Xperia Z3 is dropped from different sides and is dropped a total of three times before being dropped a fourth time and finally falling on its face, yet still sustains little more than a some scratches and scuffs around the edges and frame of the device and having no visible signs of damage to the display.
After the fifth drop the phone screen eventually cracks and the display is no longer usable as it seems that the digitizer becomes unresponsive, yet it still stays powered on and the camera is still functional using the dedicated camera key. The device was also dropped from quite a bit higher than it might be normally if you were to drop it while holding it in your hands, as it was held above the head while the individual was standing on a bench before letting go of the phone. Now, you can strengthen the defenses of the Sony Xperia Z3 in a number of ways, one being a case, although I have personally found that the application of a tempered glass screen protector can add an extra thin layer of durability to the screen and it still looks nice, and almost like there is nothing on it.
